The IFMA Houston Experience

Annual Hug-A-Bear Campaign: March 14th Collection Day

Once again IFMA Houston is proud to sponsor our annual Hug-a-Bear Campaign. Collected bears will be distributed to the Houston Police and Fire Departments so that officers and firefighters can carry them in their patrol units, fire trucks and ambulances.  The bears are used to comfort children who have suffered a traumatic experience or crisis.  Some of the bears will be given to the Juvenile Sex Crimes Unit Investigators so that they can bring comfort to their young victims.

Please bring your new, 12”-14” size bears (or other cuddly animals) to the March 14th luncheon for collection and help us share hugs with Houston children!

Is your company looking for a way to increase its community service?  Why not join companies like Kinder Morgan and Hilcorp in holding a company-wide Hug-A-Bear Drive?  This year we are awarding a special Chapter Spotlight to the company with the most bears donated for the March 14th collection day.  The winning company will be invited to attend the May luncheon as our guest with an opportunity to speak during the program as our Chapter Spotlight.  For more information please contact Kathy Edwards.

Decades of Experience Found at Joint IFMA/CoreNet Event

The February luncheon boasted facilities experience from a wide range of areas and tenures.  Once again, we partnered with CoreNet Houston for an educational networking event.  The presentation “Prophetic City: Houston on the Cusp of a Changing America” provided insights on the dynamic nature of Houston over the past 37 years and a look into the future: how the new realities are unfolding, the changing attitudes and beliefs of the general public, and the implications of these ongoing trends for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Registered attendance for the February luncheon included 24 guests and 44 IFMA members across three categories: 43 Associates, 20 Professionals, and 5 Young Professionals

Special thanks to our guest speaker, Stephen L. Klineberg, Ph.D and co-host, CoreNet Houston for helping make this a great event.

Don’t miss the next lunch presentation coming in March.  Register now to attend!

What's Happening in IFMA Houston

Luncheon: March 14th – The WELL Building Standard

Make plans to join us for an educational presentation on improving the wellbeing of building occupants through smart, human-centered design.  Guest speaker: Sarah Pellegrin, RID, IIDA, WELL AP

“Historically, there have been various ways to measure how an interior space “works.” The metric may be sq. ft./person or cost/sq. ft. Such determinants have a rightful place among the principles of design, but it is possible to reconcile economic necessities with a design that’s intelligent, interesting and human-centered. This session outlines how the essential components of design intersect with the principle components of the WELL Building Standard to create spaces that promote psychological well-being…resulting in more engaged, inspired, and empowered workers that exhibit a higher level of creativity and innovation.”
