A Sneak Peek into Houston's Vision

In 2011, the citizens of the City of Houston voted to invest in rebuilding the city, street and drainage infrastructure by passing the Rebuild Houston initiative. Shortly after this initiative passed, the city embarked on an assessment of their entire building portfolio by completing a comprehensive facility condition assessment. This assessment was the first phase of implementing a systemic approach to improving facility management and building standards. 

Scott Minnix will discuss this plan/strategy and the vision for City of Housotn buildings.

About the Speaker: Scott Minnix, Director of GSD for the City of Houston

Scott Minnix is the director of the General Services Department (GSD) for the City of Houston.  In addition to implementing green and sustainable property and energy management solutions, Minnix oversees City services ranging from real estate, design and construction, maintenance, security and day-today building operations of nearly 400 facilities representing 8 million square feet of occupied space.

A dynamic, transformative executive leader, Minnix’s lean management style improved departmental efficiency and customer services.  He increased the utilization of MWBE businesses and in doing so earned GSD the Mayor’s office of Business Opportunity’s 2013 City of Houston Outstanding Department of the Year. 

A former officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve, Minnix received a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration/Management from the University of Puget Sound.

Minnix, a single father, relocated to Houston in 2010 with his daughter, Jasmine, a student at Lamar High School.  He is actively engaged in the community and is an avid tennis player and golfer.
