Common Misconceptions of Business Continuity

Three years ago there were not any World Workplace sessions on Business Continuity or Emergency Planning.  In Philadelphia there were numerous sessions on the topics reflecting the FM awakening that Disasters are the New Normal and we must be prepared for the unthinkable in our workplaces.  Our speaker is Tom Weems, Certifies Business Continuity Professional and listed are his significant accomplishments in the world of business continuity.

About the Speaker: Tom Weems, CBCP

Tom Weems is a Dallas-Fort Worth based independent consultant in Business Continuity Planning.  In 1994, he organized a group of senior BC consultants to assist businesses nationwide in developing business continuity plans.  Since founding the group he has assisted in developing and implementing more than 400 Continuity Plans in private and government sectors that span over 40 different industries.

Mr. Weems is certified as a Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) by the Disaster Recovery Institute International (certificate #1758).  Additionally, he is certified as an instructor for the Disaster Recovery Institute International, regularly presents instruction sets for that Institution on a contract basis, has assisted that group in rewriting the CBCP certification exam, and holds a FEMA certification in Basis Incident Command.  Tom periodically contributes articles to major business continuity publications, and provides business continuity training through publicly offered courses and in-house training.

A strength that has proven to be extremely valuable in today's changing world is Tom's ability to satisfy various business continuity legislative requirements, such as those required by:

*  PDD 65 (COOP) – now FCD 1 & FCD 2
*  HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act of 1996)
*  SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley)

Mr. Weems attended the University of Texas at Arlington majoring in mathematics and earned a Programming Certificate from Brantley Draughon College.
