Thomas "Steve" Burris
Owner, 305 Training and Consulting

Steve Burris, Owner of 305 Training and Consulting, retired from the US Secret Service as a Senior Special Agent after 22 years with the Service and 25 total years in federal law enforcement. His last two years were spent as a Regional In-Service Training Program Manager. In that capacity, Steve was responsible for training over 200 agents in seven states. Steve was selected to be one of the first two RIST-Program Managers due to his extensive experience as an instructor and his dedication to learning. The RIST mission included providing small detail training to both USSS personnel and partner law enforcement agencies, Tactical Combat Casualty Care training, and control tactics training.

Steve served as a Control Tactics and Basic Tactics instructor at the US Secret Service Academy for four years. During that time, he taught both basic and advanced students and was sent to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center for Control Tactics Instructor Training and Basic Tactics Instructor Training courses. Steve became both an ASP Instructor and an OC instructor at the academy. He taught use of force in a dynamic, simulated training environment both with the MILO computer system and on the streets of the Secret Service’s own judgmental range.

In retirement, Steve looks forward to leveraging his skills as an instructor and his experience as a Secret Service agent to provide excellence in training to law enforcement as well as civilians who may face similar threats but who generally have less training and no ability to call for reinforcements during a confrontation.
