"Jedi Mind Tricks for Work and Home"

Speaker: Annette Monks, President, Carlton Staffing

PRESENTATION SYNOPSIS:

Have you ever started a conversation with someone that went downhill quickly and you didn’t know why it happened or how to get it back on track? What about dealing with an angry client who cannot seem to be satisfied? Or how about that coworker that keeps saying “It’s fine” when we know it’s NOT!

During this interactive session, we will introduce a human behavior theory that can be used to establish better outcomes from challenging conversations. You will learn:

  • What emotional ego states you will encounter in discussions,
  • How to identify the ego states in yourself and the other party,
  • How to neutralize conflict and confrontation during the conversation,

Implementing what you learn during our session will lead to more productive, less emotional conversations in the workplace and beyond.

SPEAKER BIO:

Annette is the President of Carlton Staffing, a 40+-year-old regional employment firm headquartered in Houston. Carlton places office, accounting & finance, and industrial personnel in temporary and full-time positions.

Since 1990, Annette has moved up the ranks in the staffing industry. She served in many capacities ranging from front-line recruiter to her current position as President. Along the way, she earned the respect of her colleagues, clients and competitors through “straight-shooting” communication and hard work. This is evidenced by the number of sales, team, and leadership honors and awards she has received individually and on behalf of her teams over the span of her career. Since Annette became the leader of Carlton Staffing in 2011, the company has been voted as a winner of the HBJ Best Places to Work, Houston’s 101 Best & Brightest Companies, Dallas/Ft. Worth’s 101 Best & Brightest Companies, and Inavero’s Best of Staffing each year. Annette was recognized by the Houston Business Journal as a “2015 Women to Watch” and later honored again in 2020 as a “Women Who Mean Business” recipient.

Annette volunteers as a job search coach and the LinkedIn trainer at JobNet, a Christian Community Service Center organization. She is a Board Member of the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber, the Past Chair of Executive Women’s Partnership at the Greater Houston Partnership, and is on the Texas State Council for the American Staffing Association. She served on special committees and as a committee leader in all of these organizations. She is currently the Board Chairman for The Health Museum and is a sustaining member of the Junior League of Houston.
