IFMA Houston's 2021 Event Recaps
|
|
During our January virtual presentation, IFMA Houston was excited to welcome Dawn Landry to speak about inspirational strategies to use in 2021. While encountering challenges in her own life, Dawn realized she was using strategies everyone could use to conquer challenges every day. As a result, she started writing her book, which was released on January 11, 2021, Armored:A Memoir with INspirational and Practical Life Strategies. If you attended this presentation, but have not had the opportunity to complete the survey, please reach out to our Chapter Administrator for the Survey link, so you can receive our January eBook with some extra resources Dawn made available to the IFMA Houston attendees. |

Even with our events going virtual, IFMA Houston and CoreNet Global's Houston Chapter did not want to miss out on the opportunity to hold our joint event for February. This year, we had the opportunity to hear William Harris from Houston's Space Center speak about what the future holds for NASA, the space program, and the Houston Space Center, specifically. The group of attendees enjoyed the networking at the beginning of this presentation, which CoreNet had never experienced in their virtual events, and everyone took full advantage of the Q&A portion of the presentation. The attendees were thankful for the time Harris provided the group, and we all look forward to a visit to the Houston Space Center very soon. |
Upcoming Events for spring 2021!
Spring is usually the busiest season for events and activities for IFMA Houston. We were so disappointed to have to cancel most of these events last year due to COVID-19, but they are back and better than ever.
Please note, for any upcoming, in-person event, you will be required to complete the COVID-19 waiver before attending. Additionally, we won't be allowing in-person registration at most of the events in order to minimize touchpoints.
We look forward to seeing you at one of our events VERY soon!

IFMA Houston is working to restart a member group that was established a couple of years ago for those of you who may be in between careers. The member group will meet regularly to discuss the Houston job market, job hunt, and other issues affecting people who are looking for opportunities in the facilities field. This member group is open to both Professionals and Associates and does not cost anything to join. IFMA Houston is currently looking to gauge interest in this member group, so if you are interested in joining, please reach out to Bart Surratt via email, and let him know if you are interested in joining! |

Office of Sustainability
|
On Earth Day this year, the City of Houston published its first-ever Climate Action Plan. The plan is a culmination of input from community stakeholders, students, businesses, non-profits, Houston’s academic institutions, environmental experts, and the energy sector for over a year. Sustainability and resilience go hand in hand, and this plan will help Houston assess the current and future risks facing our city. We must take actions that will keep our city strong, resilient and sustainable regardless of what comes our way. Houston can anticipate more extreme heat events, more ozone action days, and more rainfall if we do not take action. Tackling this challenge head-on is necessary for Houston to protect current residents and future generations. Here’s where we need your help. • Sign up and participate in Houston Climate Action Plan implementation working groups • Collaboration • Community engagement We need you to drive participation in our community to take appropriate steps to build our resilience. Be changemakers in your classrooms, neighborhoods, in our city, and help us find smart solutions. Please complete this short survey (7min) and provide us with some information about yourself. Click HERE to sign up for the Climate Action Plan implementation working groups. We are collecting demographic data to ensure that we are reaching out to a diverse set of people that is representative of the Houston community. Recent sessions from Houston Climate Week were recorded and can be viewed online, for those interested. |
Did You Know...
Did you know… Construction material accounts for 38% of the waste stream in the Houston area. The Building Materials Reuse Warehouse, a component of the City of Houston Solid Waste Management Department, benefits the community by providing space for excess building materials that would otherwise be dumped in local landfills. We accept material from individuals, supply companies, and builders, and make it freely available for reuse by any non-profit organization. The Reuse Warehouse is funded in part by a grant from the Houston Galveston Area Council, a region-wide voluntary association of local governments in the 13-county Gulf Coast Planning region of Texas.
