"The Push for Innovation & Resiliency"

In the wake of needing to respond to how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected business, many companies are finding the need for innovation to help not only remain operable and keep their workers employed, but provide new solutions using systems already in place, or creating new ways of providing solutions to their client base. Whether the shift is temporary or the “new normal”, this panel while diving deeper into the why, the how and the results and impacts the shifts in innovation has had on their company and the community they serve.

Panelists:

Bonnie Reese
Gensler

Bonnie Reese is an experienced strategist and regional co-leader for consulting at Gensler. With her background in qualitative research, she is uniquely adept at translating human needs and behaviors into strategies for design. Her work includes everything from master planning for a medical campus and creating digital solutions for STEM learning, to designing frameworks to map the future of the data economy. Bonnie has collaborated with clients across a variety of industries, including American Airlines, AT&T Discovery District, the City of Austin,  the University of Texas Dell Medical School and Vodafone. Most recently, she has focused on opportunities to transform the way we work and behaviors in the urban landscape in response to COVID. Prior to arriving at Gensler, Bonnie was a leader at frog design and also ran her own design consultancy firm for three years.  In addition, she has taught design at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin and spoken at countless events, such as TedX Austin, Digi.City Connects and The Texas Tribune Festival.

While Gensler has always focused on designing employee experience, we are leaning much more heavily into the choreography of this across the workplace, digital experience and cultural programming – whether that’s for immediate re-entry or long-term strategy.

Key Offerings that are getting a lot of attention these days include:

  • Reconsidering existing real estate portfolios and current space programs in the post-COVID context
  • Opportunities to accelerate cultural transformation
  • Working to define what flexibility looks like for your organization and plans for implementing a well-choreographed workplace experience
  • The Connected Workplace (identifying and weaving together the right digital ecosystem)

APEX Surface Care – Kathy Edwards

Since most of our clients suspended services and/or projects, we had to quickly adjust to infection control by quickly acquiring additional equipment, securing quantities of disinfectant, PPE, marketing materials, Infection Control training for all employees regardless of their position.  Our fair pricing earned us a way to keep our Company in tack from operations to administration.

We also shifted our Community Give Back Program to treat Homeless Shelters/Women & children Centers/Community Centers all Pro Bono.  This helped the Community and gave our technicians hours to supplement their incomes.  Even now we are researching future needs and innovative products that will offer solutions for clients since no one knows when this will end!

McCoy Rockford Commercial Interiors – Kim Bishop

McCoy Rockford Commercial Interiors have made a number of changes in order to shift our business to provide innovative services and technologies to our clients. Below we have just mentioned a few of these services/technologies:

  • We partnered with a service company to provide COVID-Killer spray services to protect from COVID for 90+ days
  • We partnered with a manufacturer of custom sanitizing stations to expand our product offering
  • created a new design service to take a customer's floor plan and identify red zones that may need to be modified for social distancing and offer potential layout solutions
  • We built a “Work From Home” program online to offer quick ship seating, desks, monitor arms, accessories, and protective screens
  • McCoy-Rockford built a library of options for screens and dividers that can be added to benches and workstations to provide additional separation and protection, and
  • Our business provided additional marketing collateral online via our website and social media sites to promote safe workplace solutions

HOK – Adam Stoltz

HOK is working with our clients to address the challenges of the day and what lies ahead.  We believe that the notion of “returning to the office” is flawed. We need to acknowledge that there were things that weren’t working before COVID-19 and instead of returning to them we need to address them as we move forward. We need to evolve beyond a singular notion of “an office” to “reimagine an ecosystem of spaces” that truly address our needs, now and in the future.

Key Offerings that are getting a lot of attention these days include:

    1. Developing WFH policies and protocols for successful implementation
    2. Prepare the space for re-entry
    3. Helping prepare people for the future of work via change management engagements
    4. Addressing the role technology can play in the future workplace
    5. Updating and amending guidelines and standards to reflect best practices
    6. Assessing space and portfolio needs
    7. Reimagining gathering spaces
