Starting with Why: The Workers’ Future Place

Qualifies for (1) AIA HSW Credit

What is “the Future of Workplace Design?” Proposed answers to this question are relentlessly chronicled by design publications and other media outlets featuring the latest trends in technology, materiality and spatial organization. Devoured by us all, this coverage externalizes workplace conversations to the detriment of thorough design.

External comparisons beg the question… “What’s my competition doing?” Leading organizations to choose amenities and styles independent from a thorough understanding of themselves.

Imagine shifting the conversation from “What are they doing?” to “Why are we doing what we’re doing?” Suggesting the potential for space that is not only relevant to an organizations’ culture and activities, but resonant with it – achieving business effectiveness by equipping and inspiring people to do their best work.

We are thinking about the people who shape the future of each organization, and asking ourselves: “How can the workplace we design support their passions and aspirations, and ultimately the goals of the organization?”
Page invites you to tour their newly renovated offices in downtown Houston and join a conversation about designing workers’ future places…

The objectives of this talk are:

  • Explore the current drivers for change in the workplace
  • Understand the importance of a thorough design approach that engages and focuses on the worker
  • See examples of how spaces can increase health and productivity of the worker
  • Learn ways to plan the workplace of the future that balances design, cost and time.
